The TLDR version is it's an extension for webui. It lets you use images as a baseline for your gen. Like img2img but more sophisticated, because it can process the depth map, normal map, the skeleton (Open Pose), etc.
You don't necessarily need to use an image as a base. You could make an open pose skeleton yourself and use it as a base, which is what I did here.
