The alarm's incessant beeping forces me to roll and slap my phone. The noise stops. Stumbling out of bed, I turn and glance behind me. Rosemi is still snoozing, dead still, hair spilled out over the pillow. I head to the kitchen to start the tea and boot up the stream. The kettle rattles and a shrill whistle announces that it's ready. I head back into the bedroom and shake Rosemi. "Hey, it's time." She wakes up, eyes bleary with sleep and lets out a massive yawn. I hand her a cup of tea. It's still chilly and we sit huddled together on the couch, sharing a blanket. "Why did you get me up for this?" "Hey, you said you wanted to see the launch" "Yeah, but I didn't think it would be this early" Another yawn, another gulp of hot tea. "Well, maybe we can go back to bed before we have to get ready to head to your parents." As we launch the countdown ticks down, I hand her something else, a small, wrapped box. Her eyes light up. "Merry Christmas, Rosemi. I can't think of spending this day with anyone else". Inside a delicate ring glitters.
