I like the power struggle between the two. Mori wanting to do her job and make her master proud (so she can prove she is deserving of her title), Kiara fighting for survival (even though she will come back. Say she is trying to protect others. If she dies then they're next, and Mori will take them too.) Obviously death isn't some terrible thing, it's an end which should bring peace to a soul.
But Mori is the end. Her existence means the end of others, and that's a point of contention with Kiara and I'm sure others as well- and it's a big breakthrough when they all realize they play for the same team and keep the universal cycle going.
Mori and Kiara specifically had vicious fights, harsh debates, and other not-nice moments. They have also had beautiful moments where they've watched a world grow and change, sharing unique views of it. When all else is gone, they will still be there bickering with each other until those final flames burn out.
