>>11173083Tactics are one of the two things Hunters get that to give them an edge against all the monsters they hunt. Unlike Endowments though they're open to every Cell of every Tier, not just a Conspiracy thing.
Everybody in CofD and do "Teamwork" actions. Basically the character who attempts the action is called the "primary actor", while those attempting to help them are "secondary actors". The primary actor assembles the standard dice pool for that action, following all the normal rules. Secondary actors do the same but roll their pool before the primary actor's. Each success they generate gives the primary actor another die to roll. A secondary actor that rolls a dramatic failure instead gives a four dice penalty to the action. The primary actor then adjusts their dice pool accordingly and rolls it like normal. So basically anyone can help with anything but as you all need to roll the same dice pool someone rolling 1 die isn't likely to help much, and if there are penalties it'll be worse. If you would ever roll less than 1 dice on a roll you roll a "chance dice" this is 1d10 where instead of 8+ being a success only 10 is, and 1 also becomes a dramatic failure.
Hunters get a special set of actions that use this sort of primary/secondary actor system, called Tactics. I really doubt we'll see them in the game but if we do I'm hoping they'll use the ones from the HtV 2e book. Tactics are split into Physical/Mental/Social categories, and each has a set effect and works in a similar fashion to a teamwork roll. The major difference here is that each actor won't always be rolling the same pool, because each actor will be doing a different thing to make sure the Tactic happens. Each roll will have a description of why you're doing that roll as well as a min/max amount of actors. So something like "Wits + Weaponry or Brawl (contain the monster, 1/4)" means you need at least 1 actor making that roll, and you can have up to 4 actors doing the same thing with more than that no longer contributing to the primary actor's pool. Additionally lots of them have some form of requirement. That could be having an actor require a certain Skill or Attribute at a certain dot, or you might need to know a Virtue/Vice/Aspiration of the monster. Learning a Tactic costs 5 Experience.
For HtV2e in order to use a Tactic you have to Risk Willpower. On a standard roll you can Risk Willpower on pretty much any roll that is directly related to pursuing the Vigil, with some exceptions, instead of the standard benefit of +3 dice you instead get to pick 2 benefits of your choice. +3 dice, Exceptional Successes on 3 instead of 5, +1 damage, 9-again, or remove 10-again from the opponents roll if it's contested. A Tactic counts as both benefits. So it's just obviously stronger but the catch is, if you fail the roll the action counts as a Dramatic Failure. So it's really bad if you don't succeed, and it means Tactics can only Dramatically Fail, however you do get 2 beats for the trouble. On a Success you also get a beat, as well as recovering the WP spent and another one on top. You can also only risk WP once per scene.
So for 2e's Mental Tactics you have Identification (Find out if the target is a monster), Monster Lore (Learn about the target's abilities), Profiling (Learn about the target's Anchors, Aspirations, Potency, one of it's Social/Mental traits), and Sweep (Check for traps and ambushes). For Physical Tactics you've got Called Shot (Apply a tilt, do lots of damage), Capture (Pin them down and tie them up), Controlled Immolation (Set them ablaze), Corral (Get the target where you want them), Harvest (Cut out bits of them as samples), Lure (Draw the target out of hiding and to a specific spot), and Scatter (Everyone runs away while one person stays behind to distract them). Then for your Social Tactics there is Adrenaline Rush (Ignore wound penalties, gain some bonuses Resistance traits), Expose (Blackmail or reveal evidence of the monster), and Freeing Mind (Resolve Mental/Social supernatural effects from a target). I'll attach an example of each for you to read.
Here are all the 1e ones if you want to take a look.
