I've lived almost entirely on meat my entire life. It's theoretically possible with potatoes and cucumbers etc but to be honest by 1600 European standards raising livestock outside of eggs made meat a rare treat and not a daily staple. So todays vegan is just living like they're in the 1600s. We eat like kings by today's standards. By which I mean peasantry rarely had reliable meat to eat. Especially daily.
Heck even settling America we had pork barrels which were salted because we couldn't really preserve meat well and early fridges before Freon (sp?) had ice men deliver ice blocks to keep your stuff cool.
Of course there is an appeal to the nature lady eating carrots.
She was simply warped here from a time of taverns and mystery before Europe drove the last wolf out.
