>>90850534If you read what the neocons were saying at that time, they wanted a fullscale invasion of the entire Middle East, and basically to replace all of these governments with democracies. Their message became all about "spreading democracy". Also, Muslim hate became totally acceptable in America. You had radio hosts and people on the street openly saying they wanted to turn the entire Middle East into glass.
The US invaded Iraq, expecting a quick war like the previous Iraq War (which was over in just a couple weeks). But it became a quagmire, with no government the US became the peacekeepers. Soldiers kept dying and being crippled in large numbers from roadside bombs. Public opinion turned against the war, and the Republican Party became one of the most hated political parties on Planet Earth. This allowed Obama to win an easy victory against "bomb Iran" McCain.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YENbElb5-xYThe US also invaded Afghanistan, probably for the Opium. This is a similar strategy the CIA was using in South America, by selling drugs they could fund paramilitary organizations and use them to topple governments in the entire surrounding region (I'm not making any of this up, they were literally caught shipping drugs on planes, yes this happened). If you were causing trouble in the Middle East, it would be very helpful to have the opium markets available for you. Also, there was the fact that Osama bin Laden was in Afghanistan (funny story, Osama was connected to Saudi royalty, 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudi, and yet Saudi Arabia was not invaded and is still the USA's biggest ally).
Anyway, since they couldn't do fullscale wars anymore, they have changed their strategy. Now they fund revolutions and basically overturn these governments that way. They did this in Libya by funding Al Quada (yes, the same group that took down the Trade Center), and in Syria by funding and supplying ISIS.
These attacks were also used to pass all the unconstitutional spying and torture programs, such as the Patriot Act and the NSA. The US really has become one of the most evil empires on the planet thanks to the neocons.
