You can make structurally sound dome using a icosahedron structure. The advantage is that if one of the panels is damaged, it is easy to replace, where a solid metal dome would be more expensive and may require welding.
Another is that the moon would be very poor in heavy metals, while quartz-glass could easily be made with regolite. With some plastic, layered plastic/glass composites could be made, aka bulletproof glass.
