The fundamentalist sects of Islam aren't very different from those of western Christianity and we can both acknowledge those groups are crazy and not representative of the mainstream. Hell even in mainstream Islam drinking alcohol is seen as a huge no-no and yet many Muslims continue to drink because religion is just what you make of it I suppose. There are many Muslims who don't observe the day to day aspects of the religion besides daily prayer and celebrating Ramadan.
