>>87669406Not to mention the inherent manipulative nature of Donothons/Subathons, the whole timer shtick adds a fomo effect, making their parasocial viewers feel like they NEED to donate or else the ever-ticking timer runs out. Plus have "top 5 donators" lists, which compels the paypigs to compete with eachother for biggest paypig.
Many vtubers will do various manipulative shit when the timer is nearing it's end if people aren't donating, such as
>telling sob stories and crying to bait sympathy bucks>suddenly ending stream (even if there's only a few minutes left on the timer) to continue the donothon the next day (when there's more viewers online to potentially gift money, some vtubers I've seen will end their stream and then start it up on the day of the week most working people in the west typically get paid, obviously hoping some viewers will get their paycheck and then spend it on her to increase the timer so it doesn't end)>Going "oh wow guys, looks like the subathon is about to end, haha......unless?....." etc.
Like I have no idea how this donothon shit got normalized, it's blatant e-begging, worse than DSP has ever done. Entirely designed around manipulative the most parasocial of your viewers into giving you money just to see "number go up": Doing a donothon is you basically just admiting you view your audience as wallets to be milked dry and nothing more.
