The power scaling Fairy Tail had was bad, but that last arc just took the cake. Oh here are demon and god slayers glore. Here's Erza's fucking mom, and did I mention there's time travel? Wizards are doing self contained nukes. And it just kinda ends. Overall I really liked Fairy Tail when it started, Mashima's world building and imagination with powers is pretty high tier, but his problem is that he can quickly go off the rails and make things beyond stupid.
All the stupid Zeref shit should have ended at the Tower of Heaven. It was honestly a plot point that brought down the entire series for me because of how fucking badly Mishima wanted Jellal to be around, WHEN THERE WAS A FUCKING MIRROR VERSION THAT WAS 10X COOLER ALREADY. The alt world was also where things clearly took a point of no return narrative wise, since it removed prior consequences and do a major disservice by never really addressing the reunion of two characters which should have had a lot more meaning.
>>84979008Making a world of whimsy is good, but the problem soon became that the story wasn't so much about exploring that world and all the neat magical things it could have. Meathead shonen is also great, but my problem is that he doesn't spread the meat around enough. He made a lot of really cool characters, but doesn't give anyone besides the focal crew any chance to shine and makes the rest of them jokes. It was really sad to see how things progressed post time skip for everyone else.
One thing though that is tops, the soundtrack. It goes so fucking hard, I use it sometimes when I write action scenes.
