>>73479106I didn’t mention it in the writing but it’s intended to be one of the local myths of /vnug/land that allured to a time before the /vnug/ people arrived at the land. If you believe in the version where they came from space then the story could be seen as a retelling of the space people coming to the natives and giving them technology and magic far beyond their understanding and led them to their doom. The story itself’s also heavily based on the Promethean myth so that could also be seen as the natives of the pre-/vnug/ people not being pleased with what the space rodents brought with them considering what usually happened to the god in these stories afterwards
The Promethean allegory’s intentional from the start but I ended up making my own version of it as an in-universe myth both because I can’t find a fitting quote from existing works and I guess I’ve been thinking about apocalypse for a while. I guess had I been more optimistic and wanted to fit the thread’s origin more, the story would’ve been more similar to the Rainbow Crow myth
