Fun With a Pencil and Loomis' other books are available for free online so they're a terrific source, and the guy was a born teacher so he breaks down the essentials well. As you gain confidence you can work your way up to Vilppu and the like. I haven't been to /ic/ in years but I'm pretty sure you'd still be able to find links to most of the better learning sources there.
