Hi Nerissa, very emotional day if the thread is anything to go by. I hope youre feeling better across the board, from your illness to this emotionally charged day. It's good to let it out though, keeping emotions bottled up it's not good for you, so in many ways the fact that you let it out today is very healing and it's ultimately good for you. Change is a part of life, thats just what we all go through, however the memories and the good times will always remain; and its always better that it happened than if it never happened at all. Dont worry Nerissa you're all good, let it all out and then cheer up, there's far more good memories in your future ahead of you to look forward to. Be glad the memories you've experienced happened.
>faunaI'll be honest I dont know much about her, but she has really admirable physiognomy, she's like a Jane Bennet type. Very ladylike, good for her. I wish her all the best.
>epiphany dayDo you celebrate epiphany day? You should its on the 6th. The celebration is on the official church calendar but it originated from either France or Spain its debated. Its the feast day of the visitation of the three wise men, to Baby Jesus. Its unironically like a second Christmas to those who celebrate it and it marks the end of Christmastide. (Christmas lasts from the 25th of December to the 6th of January in case you didnt know, we're still in Christmas right now so dont let the party stop). Anyway, its celebrated with a get together, similar to thanksgiving, where food and family get together and it culminates with the finale of the King's Cake. As far as I know only the French Empire and the Spanish Empire have a kings cake. Take a look. This one is the French classic known as "Galette des Rois"
>La galette des rois à la frangipanehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1sY752loToThis one is from the French Empire colony Louisiana known as "King Cake"
>King Cake is Mardi Gras' Most Famous Dessert | Legendary Eatshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDB_nBwm_GkThis is from Spain known as "Roscón de Reyes"
>ROSCÓN DE REYES CON ESBIETAhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7n8GSa8pv4And this one is from Spanish Empire colony Mexico I believe, known as "Rosca de Reyes"
>Rosca de Reyes a la Leña - La Herencia de las Viudahttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQrErLjjM1gAt this point I have tried them all, and I am a pastry devourer so I cant pick a favorite since theyre all good for their own reasons. The story behind these cakes is to celebrate and retell the story of the day of Epiphany. Inside each of those cakes is hidden a little figure to represent how Baby Jesus was hid from the bad king herod who ordered infanticide. As you cut and eat those cakes someone will eventually cut into or bite into the little figure, discovering it. Depending on which country you're in different actions occur to the lucky or unlucky individual who discovered the figure. They become "king for a day" "they get bad luck or good luck" "they have to cook for everyone on candlemass day" and other stuff.
>eatingI hope you try some of these if you can find some local french or spanish bakeries near you, and share this with your sister. Epiphany day is a day centered around children, they would love it. And if you can't find a bakery near you, those videos come with recipes. Its a great bonding experience between mother and children, Im sure your sister would love it. I know you'll love it too. These traditions are all of our traditions collectively even if we may not be the race that originated it, its our religion that ties us. Nerissa, those traditions are just as much yours as they are any Frenchman or Spaniard. So enjoy!
>KiaraAnd tell Kiara about it too, she's one of us now and she's a good baker so maybe she'll make one herself. Tell her to post the finished cake pics so I can mire. Are you a good baker Nerissa? I dont think ever heard you talk about baking. You should try and make some too, if your health allows for it. Dont worry if youre too sick to do it. No pressure. Of those four kings cakes which looks most appetizing to you? Three of those a relatively similar, but the french one is completely different. All of them are great though, you cant go wrong. Whats the last thing you baked? Whats your favorite baked good? Would you be interested in baking with your children? Do you like pies or cakes more? Cookies or donuts? Jelly filled or custard filled? Cheer up Nerissa and get well!
