Mayuzumi graduation. I liked to believe I watched vtubers with the curtains open from the beginning. I didn't really care if they were all fake, lying, working for tone deaf companies, I am just watching to waste time and put a smile on my face with antics and cuteness. I am here for the show even if it isn't believable. But it was like the final curtain opened. That pinpoint moment where he announced it, my passion evaporated, and I'm someone who (still) has merch on my walls and keys, and even learned how to use Live2D from how invested I got.
Before this, I was beginning to get annoyed with the whole concept when I realized even the offshoot youtubers I watch who mingle with my favorite chuubas, also had to deal with corporation influences and rabid fans despite being 3D dudes who live in mountains of trash. The fun and games aspect was waning a bit when an article promoting ROF-MAO made vtubers who I viewed as being wholly chill and moving at their own pace, into robots, with the added worry that they were pretty flippant about the long filming days and filming while sick. The indies I liked started to lose their flair and felt sanitized. Even the ones with single digit viewers, I got bored with, because while they maintain integrity and basically do comfy vlogs, I finally woke up to how repetitive it was.
I also realize, now that I stopped watching streams, I have lost this "guilt" as a viewer which is nice.
>my oshi feels bad so I feel bad
>people are annoyed at my oshi/annoyed at his associate so I feel responsible
>a vtuber got doxxed so I am anxious
I don't think those things anymore. You may laugh at these thoughts but this entire board is mired in them, tribalism doesn't only mean fighting the other tribe. It also means attaching yourself to the metaphorical tribe and making their issues your issues.
I still browse this board because even if I haven't renewed memberships in months or sat down for a stream since the summer, I have been addicted to this site for over a decade. Thanks for reading my blog.
