>>39710940So, 500 years before the current timeline of Genshin there was a kingdom named Khaenri'ah, which was a place where humans lived beyond the domain of Celestia. So, Celestia is kind of heaven in Teyvat - Teyvat is the name of the world, by the way - and because they didn't have the gods' grace they couldn't use elemental powers, which originate from the Gnosis of the Seven Archons. But yeah, the Seven Archons aren't the only gods in Teyvat, they're more like the main ones. Anyway, so Khaenri'ah was considered a threat to Celestia because they were developing technology that could match the power of the Gnosis, those machines are kind of the remains of that technology which was used as war machines against other kingdoms outside of the gods's domain. So, 500 years ago, right. Yeah, there was a war 500 years ago between Celestia and Khaenri'ah and Celestia came out on top and destroyed them. And so they cursed the people from Khaenri'ah turning them into those moblin looking creatures. They also cursed them to a cycle of constant suffering and rebirth in the body of those monsters, that was pretty fucked up. So yeah, the machines are kind of, like, the remains of Khaenri'ah and are pretty much just lost technology roaming awol.
