>>62251893With the patterns and cap in there, it looks significantly better. Your design will live or die by the colors and patterns, so while I understand the reluctance, sticking to the classics will work in your favor (especially when it comes to rigging).
If you want to further embrace the donkey aspect, the puppet could be that of a donkey head, and you could try combining the frilled collar with a harness.
It might be a tricky sell, but done right it would give you a cool leather element to link the outfit with the one on the face.
