In June 2024, the Nyanners family left their LA, California home on their way to their recently purchased cottage in Beach O' Pines, Ontario on the shore of Lake Huron. Their dog, Kino, rode in a carrier on the roof of the family's Toyota Prius for the 12-hour trip. Aethel had built a windshield for the carrier to make the ride more comfortable for the dog. During the 650-mile (1,050 km) trip, Kino got diarrhea. Nyan was first alerted to the mutt’s bowel issues when Aethel noticed brown liquid pouring down the back window, followed immediately by him yelling in disgust. Nyan stopped at a gas station to wash the dog, the carrier, and the car. With Kino back in the carrier, the family continued on their way.
