Proposed addition to /who/'s general lore:
Foodstuffs:
Greenhouses near urban centres cultivate more crops that don't grow as well in the republic's climate such as tomatoes. Although some are used to grow exotic plants and fruits, they are limited in number and only serve the demand of wealthier citizens.
Due to a relative shortage of wheat(most wheat farms are military-owned), urban bakers and rural farmers use boiled potatoes or potato flour to stretch out the wheat flour. Although potato bread doesn't last as long as wheat bread, due to its moist and fluffy texture it's one of the national food of the Republic, a staple besides the usual beef and potatoes. Bakers working in the joint /nasa/-/who/ industrial bakery also make potato rolls for the republic's burger chains. The airy buns are perfect for hamburgers due to their pillowy texture, sweet flavour and crispy crusts when toasted.
Host to a growing working class, both in number and income, cities in the republic have developed a restaurant culture. Bistros serve more well-off workers(often white-collar) looking for meals that are closer to home-cooked and high-end establishments serve the wealthy and middle-class citizens. Though most still workers fill their stomachs in canteens of their respective factories.
Economics, resources, goods production, and industry:
Despite failures to introduce cash crops on a large scale, vineyards and wine production are an important component of the republic's export. Vineyards are distributed in the lowlands of the west and some areas in the east. Most wines produced in the west are dry red wines, whereas the east mostly produces whites.
Betraying the image of rugged, crude products made by the republic, wines produced by some regions are prized in many countries. Of particular note are the sparkling white wine of the eastern, mountainous province and dry red wine of the coastal provinces.
While the working class prefer the stronger distilled potato spirits and cold beers, wines are frequently drunk by the growing urban middle class and used extensively in cooking. Pickling meat and vegetables, adding bite to stews, or even cleaning, vinegar made from wine has many uses.
note: Since /Who/ is basically France in terms of climate and the rough geographical location vis-à-vis
irl earth I want to incorporate something about wine production in there.
Also, the restaurant part can be axed as there isn't any lore on the economic make-up of the population and it isn't really that important.
