Breaking immersion is not the issue itself when it comes to vtubers. People can separate the character from the voice actress. The issue is what is the gap, expressed through kayfabe, truly expressing. This is not just the performance nor just the real person, but rather the multifaceted fantasy (potentially covering a broad range from the aspirational to the aesthetic and even carnal) and how it relates to reality. This is why it sometimes matters how much of a piece of shit someone is and in what way exactly. It matters only sometimes because it is evaluated in relation to the fantasy and what such a deliberate choice of fantasy communicates about the heart of the performer, and this is something beyond the control of both audience and chuuba.
