>>68466409It did. Someone linked the topic on the Nijisanji board and one of the top replies was a huge thread of people talking about how 90% of the time it's a taboo that only serves the corporation's interests. I just saw a Youtube compilation of Selen clips where people were saying the same things.
I think there are a lot of people who love the idea of having muh sEkRiT fOrBidDeN kNoWlEdGe about their favorite vtubers and are happy to go along with it because it makes them feel like a very special boy privy to some deep dark secret that must be kept from mere initiates, but remember how Selen was told that she's nothing special by herself. How scared she was that she had just lost everything she'd spent the last several years trying to grow, just because she'd lost the Nijisanji persona. How the company just brushed off the hostile termination of one of their biggest streamers as "negligible" (also, how the fuck is that going to make everyone ELSE left there feel, especially the ones not doing half as well as Selen was?). How they hoard the fucking awards for their achievements like Smaug because hey, we all know that YOU didn't really earn them, it's all thanks to our hard work that we're gracious enough to let you share some of. Companies LOVE the idea of having talents whose entire careers are tied to them and are screwed if they every step out of line or quit; just look at WWE pulling the exact same shit. Even for a seemingly-benign employer, people being able to associate your achievements with an account *you* control instead of your manager is powerful and crucial insurance just in case something goes wrong. Coco should have taught that lesson years ago; keeping your PL or alt account maintained with some activity every few months isn't sus traitor behavior or muh secret knowledge for secret hardcore fans only, it's the equivalent of updating your resume every now and then so you aren't fucked if you suddenly have to use it.
It's not just Selen, not!Pomu was also shocked at there being enough people following her post-Niji to have more than a handful of random people interested in mini-zatsus or irregular karaoke on Twitter. End corpo gaslighting, their accomplishments belong to them and not the model.
