The idea itself mostly comes from out of touch millennials and boomers who can't move on from the 00s and think women still don't use the internet. They don't realize multiple generations have grown up with it now and that the modern internet has been HEAVILY feminized. Vtubing is ultimately a symptom of that where women want to express a sense of fashion and hierarchy but without making themselves overly vulnerable. Vtubing mixes fantasy with reality to give them a second chance after failing at IRL ladder climbing.
