They are sad with the ending and took it serious, but they just didn’t liked it. I bet you guys also have games you didn’t liked the ending, it doesn’t mean you are wrong, people have different opinions.
Also I think they deciding to RP the ending fight fits way more their playthrough than fighting each other to death
