I didn't even notice anything "overtly political" that would've riled people up on it, aside from when Yuy was playing it and the main male character was super dense and useless but that seemed to make sense for horror game tropes otherwise he'd just beat the game for you.
Maybe the main problem is it's too different from the older games.
