With /vt/ it makes sense because these are dicussions built around individuals and so people would just naturally cluster together to talk about them.
The problem with generals ultimately is that once they've been around long enough they tend to get very clique-y. And I don't even mean like ritualposters, I mean the idea that anyone says anything counter to the general culture then they're an outsider or a catalogfag or something.
