A HUGE part of being entertained is suspending your disbelief for the duration and allowing the situation carry you.
As long as the comedic timing is respected (and they all did respect it) it becomes a spectacular success.

The whole situation was entirely kayfabe but the adlibing and the fuckups are part of the hilarity of the whole thing.
