>>30095516I have been waiting for Chima's cover of Eien no Akuru hi. It is good singing as expected, but good singing is what deserves more detailed thoughts:
- The intial verses feel stiffer than I'd like, especially during "koko ni inain darou".
- The abrupt voice switch at 0:51 is masterful. Her belting and the studio effects masking it are what carry the cover.
- "Aishiteru nante" (at 1:00) was a missed opportunity for a voice switch (which even the original has). It's a signature of the song. Curious that she skipped it.
- The break in her voice at 1:47 ("inakute"), is an innovation compared to the original. But it surprises me that she doesn't do more variations. 1:55 ("kamisama") was one such missed opportunity. It feels somewhat formulaic as a result.
- The beat drop moment, of course, is at 2:40. Reminiscent of the Phony cover.
Overall I am half satisfied. Some other versions for reference:
Noa Polaris (live. Full studio version when?)
