If they didn't do this then they would spend 8-12 hours every week reading superchats. They used to read oranges too, but some fans would spam 5 $20 superchats in a row and it became overwhelming. Many holos don't even read superchats. So I'm not sure why you think it's scummy. It seems like you don't even watch them at all.
