I now believe that I know the answer. People like Ame precisely because she is average and not special in any way shape or form. It's easy for people to empathize with her, because her fans are like her, they are just regular, normal, unambitious people.
Ame is a perfect representation of a modern internet culture that rewards mediocrity, and doesn't give a fuck about skill or talent.
It's beautiful and sad at the same time...
The interesting thing is that Mori on the other hand is a complete opposite of Ame. Ambitious, stubborn and hard working. A desire to burn as bright as humanly possible is what Mori is.
