When the virus, riots, and political outrage happened in the states Hololive gained popularity as an apolitical, no drama, comforting form of entertainment that helped people get through some really shitty times.
This combined with the trauma from the Taiwan incident resulted in Hololive and it's fanbase wanting to isolate away from any of the troubles of the world.
This is hilariously shown in the Twitch dramageddon where Livestreamfails started posting random Korone clips as essentially rest areas and oasises for people to wind down in while everything went to shit.
