A funny anecdote comes from around 6 months before NASFAQ went live. The first iteration of our scrapper was hastily done by Devchama and saved individual info for each coin into a different, uniquely named .txt file. On top of this being a terrible idea to start with, many of our algorithms relate to global statistics, comparisons between similar coins, and so on, so to properly value ONE coin all 47 files had to be read. After being properly bullied for it Devchama went from MATLAB guy to McGyvering our backend in almost no time. This development sheds some light on our thought process, I think. Whenever you ask why did we take certain decisions, the answer is that we learned as we went. Outside of Honk, who is an actually competent web dev everyone else is constantly out of their comfort zone. Our first impulse was to try making NASFAQ no matter what and we actually learned most of the toolset necessary to develop it after deciding we were gonna make it.
