The point is you're taking steps to be seen in places where people can find you. Buying ads is the same deal. I've never clicked on a single ad here. Most people not on mobile will never even see them and even fewer will care because most of them are crypto scams and shitty discord servers. The handful that do see you are people you've managed to expose your brand to and could (rarely still) convert to viewers. Occasionally you'll even get a schizo mad about seeing a chuuba on the ads instead of the usual crypto scams and they'll make butthurt posts and (sometimes, in the case of the one /choc/ dog recently, a catalog thread crying about the ad.
All of that is exposure and that's how advertising works. You want eyeballs on you so that when you're performing at your best, there are people there to see you.
