>>61793627Try to build a hand of sequences of three and triplets and one pair. Chi lets you pickup the tile the last guy just discarded and complete a sequence. Pon lets you do the same but for triplets and from anyone.
In Japanese mahjong you also need a yaku to complete your hand. A hand is closed when you haven't chi'd or pon'd anything. I'd recommend you to focus on riichi, tanyao, and the wind/dragon triplets (pon them) as the yakus you go for in the beginning.
Riichi is when you get to 1 tile away from completing your hand (tenpai) with a closed hand and declare riichi by betting 1000 points. After you declare riichi you can no longer change your hand.
Once you're in tenpai if anyone else discards the tile(s) you need to complete your hand you can declare "ron" and collect the points your hand is worth from them. If you draw the tile(s) you need you can "tsumo" and collect the points from everyone.
After someone completes their hand the round starts anew. The game ends after everyone has been dealer once in east games and twice in south games. The one with the most points win.
Good luck (you'll need it) and have fun.
