I can understand wanting to protect the hobby to some extent, but unlike the typical "shield" style gatekeeping that holofans do (where you basically just defend the girls when they get unfairly attacked and flood them with support), niji fans adopted the "cactus" strat of actively shitting on and attacking pretty much anyone and anything trying to get into nijisanji.
Fundamentally I think their very business strategy was doomed to fail, since there's only so many people that a fan can expect to keep up with.
And while Holos have generations, groups and many other distinctions in their fan culture that allows newer fans to eventually get assimilated, niji only has toxic gatekeeping going for them.
They were so proud of keeping the "stinky EOPs" out of their hobby that they themselves have been reduced to just 5 of so anons just permanently bumping one thread and trying to discuss as many random nijis as possible.
