The dress is actually just popular culture as they are born out of "everyday" cadavers! The talismans are usually spells written by the jiangshi itself or by its creator in order to ensure its continuing existence, for example to avoid the rotting of the meat! There is a popular joke about affixing talismans with bizarre commands such as "do a silly dance" on the jiangshi in order to make them look stupid!
