>>77940479Ok since you wanna play reductionism let me at least give you something big enough to reduce. Modern internet autism is the same thing hat happened with ADHD like 6 years ago on vine, it's not fucking real. Medicalized terms like "hyperfixation" and "going non verbal" entered the mainstream via the internet and immediately got co-opted because the one thing internet women like more than Mpreg is being categorized. Women fucking LOVE being put into labeled groups, that's also why astrology has so much staying power. A Vtuber saying she's autistic usually has about as much importance as saying she's a Sagittarius. Autism was originally a term specifically for the non-fuctional types, the deep end of the spectrum. Autism being a spectrum at all is a relatively recent idea and the lower floor for that spectrum keeps being lowered again and again by people who are desperate to gain a sense of identity without the effort. Now just being a bit awkward is autism, not liking loud sounds is autism. "Ahh i'm overstimulated" no this bar fucking sucks and no one can hear anything, you're normal and not drunk enough to enjoy this.
In addition to the over proliferation of medical terminology and subsequent watering down of it, there are tons of other factors that make "autism" a near catch all term that admittedly don't have anything to do with char or miia. The DSM5 is a literal checkbox style quiz that is used to diagnose virtually every mental disorder in the western world and it was written 50% by insane projecting egotists and 50% by the CIA who wanted to use the results to find good candidates to groom into mass shooters. For the sake of the psychiatric industry they must continually create new terms for nothing because without constant progress society at large will quickly realize that the entire field is literal pseudoscience with human test subjects. It gained popularity for the exact same reasons as astrology, people like being able to point to something and say "that's what's wrong with me, it's real because it's written down." It gives them a sense of comfort and excuses their actions, and we know for a fact that people LOVE when they don't have accountability for being assholes. This is why autism has been on the rise so much, because it lets assholes and phonys point to something that's been so watered down that it could be anything and use it as justification for their actions when in reality they're often just failures.
Another side note: autism is a behavioral disorder, not a chemical one. Behavior can be changed and trained and because off the all encompassing nature of the term, autism can very often be cured these days. A side effect of widening the definition that people really don't like to talk about but it's very worth bringing up.
