After the civil war, the great leap forward, the cultural revolution, and all the purges in between, your average mainlander is one of these things: a mindless drone, a disgusting coward, or a psychopath. Occasionally real human breeding lines survived, but not often.
Don't waste pity on an enemy that can't even feel that emotion.
