Playing fotm games long after they stopped being fotm leads to better numbers since you're not sharing viewers with dozens of other streamers and lots of people will tune in just to see you react to the twists they already know from watching a previous stream.
Well, that relies on being a popular streamer to begin with though. If it's Petra or Reimu playing Undertale then yeah it's hopeless.
