Good morning and Merry Christmas. I wrote some Bubby speculative biology.
Bubby Life Cycle notes~
~Appearance~
Bubbies are interesting chimera creatures that are a highbred between a gorilla and an eagle. They also have a symbiotic relationship with plants. Each Bubby has a plant growing out of their head this plant can be anything but it is normally a flower. The Bubby provides nutrition and protection for their plants. The plants are very important to the lifestyle of a Bubby, the plant acts as bait for the prey the Bubby hunts and in times when prey is rare they can absorb energy from the sun using their plants. Bubbies are omnivores and are known to get into fights with other bubbies trying to eat their plants. When sleeping and hunting Bubbies borrow in the ground. Bubbies can't fly naturally however some can learn wind magic letting them fly using their capes. Bubbies are normally brown with cream markings and a yellow beak but these colors and patterns can vary. Their eyes lack details because of a protective cap on them to protect them from dirt when buried in the ground because of this they don't need to blink. Some Bubbies plants repel preditors rather then atracting prey. These Bubbies have it harder as the normal hunting tactic for Bubbies does not work for them.
~Reproduction~
Bubby mating is a complicated process. They choose potential mates by the condition of their plants, once a female selects are group of suiters the suiters will engage in various compations to choose the 4 strongest of them. When the 4 strongest are selected they fight. The winner and the female engage in a hunting competition if the male can hunt the same amount of food as the female they will mate for the season, if the male hunts more than the female they will pair up for 5 years before moving on, if the male fails to hunt enough he is rejected and the female tries again with second place. This continues until a suitable male is found or the female determines no males meet her standards. When a Bubby gets older they with choose a life companion in a similar fashion, genders no longer matter as they no longer care about reproduction and simply seek someone to spend the rest of their days with. They will even bond with non-Bubby species. Seeing Bubbies and Hakkitos together is a common occurrence.
~Infancy~
Bubbies lay 1 to 4 eggs and a time. These eggs have a soft patch on them for the parents to plant the seed that will be the Bubbies plant. Due to this soft spot, Bubby eggs are very delicate as such the parents bury them very deep to protect them. Bubbies take choosing the seeds they plant into their eggs very seriously it can sometimes take them months to choose the seeds. The Bubby egg remains dormant until a seed is planted and it can stay dormant for up to a year before the egg fails. Once buried the plant will sprout fast providing oxygen to the developing Bubby. The parents protect this sprout with their lives. After about a month the hatching will dig itself free. The newborn will join their parents in protecting any egg still underground. Newborn Bubbies don't need to eat for the first 3 months of life surviving on photosynthesis alone.
~Childhood to Adulthood~
From the moment of hatching Bubbies try to fight their parents, this is friendly and a healthy part of the Bubby life cycle. Bubbies don't age like normal beings and are mostly full grown when they emerge though the Bubby may grow if their plant is a particurally big plant like a tree. Since Bubbies are basically adults from the beginning Bubbies only stay with their parents to learn how to survive. A Bubby is considered an adult when it can beat one of its parents in a fight. The first Bubby of a clutch to beat their parents will often stick around to train their siblings.
~Behavior~
Bubbies make difficult pets due to their wild nature. Bubbies do whatever they want and will fight anything in their way. That being said Bubbies respect strength as such Bubbies should only be kept by strong individuals if you are weak your Bubby will not respect you and may even run away. Older Bubbies make excellent pets as they seek an individual to spend the rest of their life with they are far less wild and will respect you so long as you provide quality food for them. Never try to hatch a Bubby yourself as it will see you as its parent and become obsessed with trying to beat you in a fight so it can go off to mate.
