Fauna from the outset had a rather pessimistic outlook on her ability to communicate, and thus thought she'd fail, and so didnt she didnt even try.
Bijou as well as quite a number of 日本語話せない EN chuubas managed to get by decently okay with "passion Japanese."
Take CC for example. She managed to do fine despite basically having like zero idea of what was going on for like 99% of the RP, and still seemed to have fun. Naturally it's much easier to stick with people you know you can communicate with/get along with. But the RP also had a lot of spontaneous situations where two people whom would've never ever normally be in a position to talk, would be forced to talk. I think being forced out of that comfort zone (and being in a rather friendly, safe environment with people from the same company in just a game) really helped the few EN members that made an effort make things work.
Hell, people thought CC was really funny especially after the wedding fiasco where she sat for ages after everyone else left and immediately tried to sell more ice cream as soon as she was noticed.
It's all about passion. The JP members certainly tried quite a bit to communicate with the EOP members too using "passion English," which was rather sweet of them, I think. They could've just ignored them, but they seemed really positive!
