Swords are cool but primary duelist weapons or side arms, not ideal for infantry due to cost and the skill requirement, outpaced by spears which polearms lost to in pure reach and simplicity but won out in versatility, they could break spear shafts, were great at reaving horses and their riders, and performed well against armor.
