Even having the simple control of an avatar, just like what Kizuna had on a very surface level example, for her to move around and see how she performs would be a good start, and way easier to manage and expand. Getting her new models/bodies would also be extremely easier.
You WILL have to code feedback from her sensors anyway, whether they are from the real world or a virtual one. Going for a the dog completely restricts what she'll be able to do. Not to mention, it's going to give her bad motor habits.
