Your Jetsverse pilots could be trained to be the ultimate top secret battlefield commanders that can control troops and swarms of drones and all kinds of gadgets while still having some heightened battle prowess themselves. And all mechas should share data to have the ultimate situational awareness so that the mecha's AI can make ultimate tactical and strategic plans that the pilot will then proceed to execute if need be.
I don't know, my experience with the whole genre is pretty much just Titanfall.
