Yep, and that's just the state of our condition. Did we lead ourselves into a golden age of science and discovery by revealing the Philosopher's Stone that is Nuclear Physics for peaceful purposes? Fuck no, we made nuclear bombs and leveled cities to the ground. Then later we used it to boil water.

If there were any alien species in this galaxy it'd result in one of two things:
A) They're far more advanced than we are and wipe us out as a threat.
B) Humanity puts aside its differences for just long enough to fuck, eat, and kill the aliens. Not necessarily in that order.
