Mouse and Connor are a perfect example of the fact that men and women really can just be platonic friends who constantly give gifts to each other, spend a ton of time alone together, and travel to exotic locations to show the other sights they can never see on their own. I think you're reading a little too much into how they interact with each other if you really think there could be anything romantic going on between them.
