They're all contrarians, and you and I are contrarians too unless you're ESL, because we've been raised in Anglo societies that prioritize "freedom," i.e. ultra-individualism, above everything else. All norms must be challenged. All religions must be questioned. Everything society has built towards must be destroyed and rebuilt every generation. Counterculture is the only consistent norm in an Anglo society. Every other norm gets turned over each generation because the majority of its children grow up to be contrarians. The least contrarian member of HoloEN is Kiara, but she like most Europeans west of the Iron Curtain have been heavily influenced by the US and UK culture since the end of WW2. Bringing Japanese-style idol culture into the English-speaking world never was and never will be possible.
