The short answer to your first question is that we Orthodox use the Julian calender while the West uses the Gregorian calender:

It's been a while since I first read about the specifics but if I'm not mistaken, we're basically pretty sure that the Theanthropos was born in 4 BC because that would fit the timeline implied by the imperial census mentioned early in the gospel of Luke.
