Because the bulk of their revenue come from the low thousands that watches these girls religiously, buy their merch and attend their live events, not the millions that cliqued “subscribe” after spending 10 seconds on a short.

Hololive works on a “direct sale” model, they’re not selling ads in the middle of their content on behalf of third parties (for the most part) like most content creators doing 30 seconds NordVPN sponsored bits.
They’re selling overly expensive trinkets, concert tickets and dreams to an audience purchasing it out of love for their streamers.

The difference in business model is that, for Hololive, having 10 merch buyers is more profitable than having 10000 shorts watchers because the former will part with 1000 bucks for a set of merch while the later will net 10 bucks in ad revenue

It's apparently TWO TIMES better than TikTok, but the RPM is still garbage. People in the replies aren't faring much better. It's not even close. RPM from views on videos and VODs are like several dollars on average, tens of dollars on the high end. No one in Holo is getting hundreds of millions of views off shorts a month to make it worthwhile.
