It was rough at first, Meimi moving in. She chafed at your rules, but what where else could she go? Who would want her? No eating after 6pm, no using the bathroom unless it's to pass faeces, and no socks on in the house. You still remember the first time she came to ask you for the key and you questioned her. You knew, of course. those guilt-filled eyes. She could never hide anything. That first time she tried to hold it as long as she could and you nearly missed it. Coming home to find her whimpering in the middle of the room, tears on her cute face that turned into a torrent when she saw you looking at her. But a glimmer of relief too. A foundation of hope to build on. Little by little, it got easier for her. She no longer waited until it was physically painful. She no longer glared at you when ,s uspecting ill intentations, you brought her tea or a glass of water. It came to be, she would move to the middle of the room when she felt the urge, relieve herself, then bound off to get her MeiMop and a change of underwear. Eventually she learned (completely unprompted!) it was better to just not wear underwear or pants. And then there was the breakthrough. A beautiful Sunday evening at both of your's favorite restaurant. She unexpectedly (she went just before you left) excused herself from the table and there, standing in full view she relieved herself. It struck you as odd, at that point, that she never chose a corner or near a wall. You made no restrictions on that. Maybe deep down she always knew this is who she was. There were some gasps from the other tables, some words of concerns. You got up and went to her, taking her blushing face in your hands and told her, then and there, that you loved her. She smiled and gave you a kiss on the cheek and then turned to go get a mop. It was the happiest day of your life.
