the problem is that its disproportionately expensive for what it is, especially since a lot of the nice stuff has to be imported from japan or germany or whatever
i bought a cute little notebook with a whale shark motif and it was like 30 dollars for a book the size of my hand
the other problem is how hard it is to find certain products in a masculine or even neutral sense, girls utterly dominate paper products and even when you find something nice, the japanese love of random english words means you have a product with schizo engrish all over that you have to cover up or ignore
