Are the misunderstanding sections they regularly have a sort of staple of Japanese comedy that doesn't usually translate well into English?
I'm thinking of that dogshit Gamers anime where two girls like one loser guy, and a gyaro was dating someone and drama/comedy was based on constant misunderstandings. It was terrible, but then sections of GnT like where they had to order food/drinks in places intentionally mispronouncing stuff are actually funny; I digress.
I'm asking because as an EOP, hearing Japanese people have to talk a lot to convey very simple things and how highly being able to "read the room" is to that culture, I have to wonder if the language, like most of what they do, is primarily based on aesthetics?
Like, is their more depth or more of an appreciation to the written word and whatever that art of writing characters is than to speaking? Because it certainly seems to be a language primarily concerned with writing over speaking, unlike western languages which place greater emphasis on speech than on writing.
